Siemens to Supply Wind Turbines Worth 800 Million Euros

Germany’s Siemens has won two orders in the United States and Canada to supply wind turbines that experts said were worth around 800 million euros. Siemens will supply wind turbines capable of producing 600 MW in Ontario and will also provide 98 turbines for an Oklahoma wind farm, enough for 227 MW… Solar panel maker SunPower Corp will build a 15 MW solar plant for Arizona Public Service, a unit of Pinnacle West Capital Corp, in Glendale, Arizona. The plant, to be built at the Luke Air Force Base, will come online in the summer of 2011, with construction set to begin in January 2011… New Yorkers set a record for electricity use on July 6th. Demand for electricity reached 33,452 MW, the third highest peak in state history, according to the New York Independent System Operator. The agency said that New Yorkers consumed a total of 17,312 gigawatt-hours of electricity for the entire month of July, marking the highest monthly usage on record. Electricity consumption for the month, which was one of the hottest on record, was 19% higher than July 2009, which was cooler than average.
